Good Eats at EasySale

The Blogger Networking Bash was a chance to meet web-minded social people from the Dallas area that I hadn’t yet met through CoHabitat. It was held at EasySale.net, an eBay consignment store in Addison. At first I was bit skeptical about having the get together at a stripmall storefront rather than a restaurant or office, but in the end it worked out well. Everyone mingled around the delicious food: mini quesadillas, jalapeno poppers, brownie bites, and a homemade hot apple cider.

Given the location, I was interested to hear about the business. Apparently EasySale has four stores in the DFW area and their business is selling things on eBay. You can either drop off your old stuff, or they’ll come to your house and tell you what is worth selling. At Blogger Bash location, the biggest thing they could take was a snowboard, but the owner, David Goldstein, said plenty of people sell furniture and even pianos through their warehouse. They will take professional pictures, post the auction, and take care of the shipping so that all you have to do is monitor your email inbox. For their effort they take 40%, but for all the people who have a few thousand dollars worth of junk, the benefit is there for both parties. I found out the most interesting thing they had seen someone bring in was a collection of human skulls from a shutdown medical research lab. I think that may have pushed the limits of eBay’s Terms of Use!

I also particularly enjoyed meeting the team from The Marketing Zen Group, Stuart, Marjorie, and Shama. It turns out the guy who invited me, Neil, also works with them and had invited most of the people there. He’s apparently great at bringing people together. If you get a chance, check out Shama’s web series. She provides stellar advice about how to use social networking sites well and was one of Business Week’s Top 25 Under 25. Now this is a good group of entrepreneurs to know!

I also spoke to Bobbi Janay of kidtogrownup.com about the pitfalls of emotions and photography and Kim Kazaka from the Dallas Business Journal about traveling abroad.

EasySale’s Facebook Album has some more pictures from the event; be sure to check them out!
